A concrete density
table is the main factor for determining the amount of concrete that a
contractor will need when tearing down any building, road or underlayment. This
is based on the density of the concrete mix, which is measured in pounds per
cubic foot. If you have ever set foot at a construction site you have probably
been instructed to pound in concrete mix by your foreman or floor guy. This
usually comes in a truck along with other supplies and materials for the job.
When concrete is mixed
it is mixed using certain specified amounts of water and sand. The mixture is
then pumped into the truck and then placed in the work zone of the machine. As
soon as the concrete is poured it is immediately cooled below the mixing
temperature so that the concrete will conform to the shape that is dictated by
the density table. This is important so that the concrete does not crack, twist
or break as it sets. When the concrete is cool enough it is brought back out to
the delivery area where it is unloaded and the concrete density table is used
to determine the amount of concrete that will be needed to cover the area.
The density table is
usually found on the package of concrete that you are receiving when you pay
for your concrete through the truck delivery service. Once you find this table
it is very easy to order the right amount of concrete on a much timely basis.
You do not want to pay for too much concrete and then have less than what you
need so it is very important to make sure you know what you need and then give
the company you are doing business with a clear explanation as to why you are
ordering the specific amount of concrete.
If you have never seen
a concrete density table before when you go to your local concrete supply
house, the sales person may be able to tell you where this information is
located and show you how to find it. Most supply stores have tables showing the
density of concrete as well as other types of concrete that are used in
construction. In some cases the density of the concrete will be clearly marked
on the container. If it is not the case with your concrete supply store then
ask the salesman if they can get you the required density of concrete for your
project.
The density of the
concrete that you need for your project will depend upon several factors
including the amount of concrete you need to use, the type of foundation on
which it will be poured, the height of the building or structure to be built
and the distance from which the truck will drop the concrete mixture to the
ground. Once you have determined all these factors then simply add about ten
pounds per cubic foot to the total amount of concrete that you need for your
project. This is the density factor and it will allow you to get the exact
amount of concrete that you need to build the exact type of foundation you
need.
The good news is that
it really is easy to find the concrete density table that you need. There are
many websites online that will list the amount of concrete that is needed for a
particular project along with the density of concrete that is required. This
makes finding the correct concrete density table much easier than it was in the
past. Don't forget to consider the cost of the product as well. While it may be
cheaper to buy a pre-constructed density table rather than constructing one
yourself, there is no reason you should have to spend too much money if you
don't have to.
